The Broken Heart archiveJohn Ford's tragedy The Broken Heart is an examination of the virtues of courage, endurance and chivalry. Sparta having secured a great victory at war, looks forward to a time of celebration and happiness - its greatest hero Ithocles returning triumphant. However, peace does not settle into the hearts of the young generation. Instead suffering sets in, and true love withers in the face of a cruel and jealous arranged marriage. A play for anyone who has loved and lost.
