Alim Qasimov archiveAlim Qasimov sings in the Mugham tradition, a modal music from Azerbaijan pervaded by Middle Eastern and Eastern influences, and widespread in the Islamic countries of Iran, Uzbekistan and Turkey. Qasimov has uniquely developed this tradition - an Azerbaijani parallel to the ecstatic Qawaali singing generating blazing power at a sustained, driving pace. He will be touring with his ensemble which includes the tar (lute), Kemancheh (spiked fiddle), Double reeded balaban, clarinet, two percussionists and the stunning voice of his daughter Ferghana Qasimova.
