Based on the original tale by Cervantes. The ballet follows the adventures of Kitri, the adventurous peasant girl, who runs off to a gypsy encampment with her sweetheart, the local barber Basilio, rather than follow her father's wish that she marry the outrageously silly, but wealthy Gamache. After romantic and comic complications including a sword-fight, tilting at the windmill and a moonlit pas de deux, chivalrous Don Quixote resourcefully ensures a happy ending. Following a triumphant season in New York and a very successful US tour including the Chicago Opera House, the Universal Ballet has emerged as a true representative of classical ballet in the tradition of the Kirov. Under the direction of Oleg Vinogradov, Artistic Director of the Kirov for over 25 years, the company features internationally celebrated dancers with the corps de ballet that rivals many of the major companies of the world.
