Festen - (The Celebration) archiveIn Festen, patriarch Helge Klingenfelt is celebrating his 60th birthday with his family at a magnificent old hotel in the Danish countryside. Gathered together are his loyal wife Elsa, his daughter Helene, and sons Christian and Michael. As the evening progresses, Christian feels compelled to break the silence surrounding a dark family secret. The effect is explosive and sets the tone for a celebration no-one will forget. Making its Barbican debut in the Pit, Nottara Theatre performs Festen (The Celebration), directed by Vlad Massaci from 9 - 19 November (press night 10 November) in association with the Romanian Cultural Institute. Performed in Romanian with English surtitles this production is based on the multi-award winning Danish film and follows the Klingenfeldt-Hansen family as they gather to celebrate a patriarch s 60th birthday. On 14 November is a Post Show Talk with Massaci and the Editor of Time Out, Bucharest , chaired by journalist John O Mahony.
