In the early years of the 20th century there was a musical renaissance with composers such as Vaughan Williams and Holst re-discovering the music of their masters. Perhaps one of the most striking examples is the Variations on a Theme of Thomas Tallis by Vaughan Williams. Not only do we celebrate the renaissance of music but tonight's programme celebrates the centenary of Sir William Walton, one of the most distinctive voices from the last century.
