Details

Phoenix Dance Company are one of the leading exponents of contemporary dance. A regular feature of our spring season, internationally acclaimed Phoenix premiere their new triple bill, featuring Sadler's Wells co-commissions from Javier de Frutos and Arthur Pita. Javier de Frutos is variously described as a maverick and an individualist. His versatility has led to commissions from New Zealand Ballet and Rambert Dance Company and a plethora of awards. He brings a passionate theatricality to the stage, drawing on Phoenix's contemporary heritage to create an exuberant new work. Arthur Pita creates an updated version of Snow White for Phoenix, exposing this traditional tale to his wild imagination. In his macabre re-telling, the heroine is adopted by a high-powered Hollywood legend. Bold, inventive and with impeccable visual sense, Pita began performing with Adventures in Motion Pictures and has gone on to create his own work including the recent national tour of Camp. The evening is completed by Pave up Paradise from rising stars Ben Duke and Raquel Meseguer, a duet revisiting Adam and Eve after their fall from Eden. Bickering over the blame for their loss of Paradise, the duo's witty and irreverent work examines guilt, innocence - and lust for forbidden fruit.
