Following Glinka’s dashing and exciting Overture, rising star Katya Apekisheva performs one of the greatest 19th century keyboard works. Grieg’s Piano Concerto is rich in glorious lyricism and show-stopping virtuosity. Dvorák’s celebrated ‘New World’ Symphony makes for a dramatic finale to this concert. Described as the composer’s own musical ‘letter from America’, it is a work full of Slavonic fire and heartfelt expression.
