Fast, restless, instinctive movements play a central role in the work of Belgian choreographer-filmmaker Wim Vandekeybus. He creates dance that is so aggressive and full of adrenaline, it transforms the stage into a battlefield. Fast, restless, instinctive movements play a central role in the work of Belgian choreographer-filmmaker Wim Vandekeybus. He creates dance that is so aggressive and full of adrenaline, it transforms the stage into a battlefield. His latest production, booty Looting, involves six performers, a musician and photographer. In it all elements - music, movement, spoken word and photography - play an equal role. Belgium newspaper De Standaard describes the production as 'a choreographic work full of blood, sweat and electricity... the performers race across the stage like panting coyotes to the rumbling of Bliweert's electric guitar. The photographer skips like a consummate paparazzo amongst them.' The ever-imaginative creative of these '100,000 volt' choreographer often take their inspiration from mythical figures and stories. In booty looting, Vandekeybus leads us through tales of plundering, Medea and death by Xerox machine, along the way exploring notions of creation, destruction, memory and distortion. A picture kills the present and freezes the past. Memories take root in these frozen moments and grow.
