Lili La Scala - War Notes archiveEssex-born Lili La Scala is a firmly established cabaret gem. Her first onstage performance was at the tender age of 18 months, dressed in a sparkly silver all-in-one - a trend that has long continued. She took to it like a 1940s starlet to bright red lipstick. She studied opera at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, moved on to street performance and burlesque, before wowing people from London to New Zealand with her captivating cabaret. A poignant blend of vintage song and modern words. Chanteuse Lili la Scala is bringing her seamless combination of cabaret, theatre and heart wrenching glamour for the first time to the Edinburgh fringe. War Notes cannot fail to entrance you as you are lured in by the emotive combination of vintage glamour and stunning voice of Lili la Scala. A beautiful and moving blend of some of the most recognisable songs from wartime, (A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square, We’ll Meet Again, Keep the Home Fires Burning amongst others) with some lesser-known gems (When the Poppies Bloom Again, That Lovely Weekend and others) and the true, touching letters sent home by modern day soldiers who have been killed in combat giving their lives fighting for their country in Afghanistan and Iraq.
