Renowned for its soul-stirring high energy performances, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is one of America's greatest companies. Taking popular music, gospel and jazz and mixing the classical vocabulary of ballet with a contemporary style, the Company of 30 dancers radiate a slick and sassy energy that is purely infectious. Highlights of Programme Two include a brand new work from acclaimed choreographer Christopher Huggins plus Artistic Director Judith Jamison’s 1993 Emmy award-winning production Hymn, a tribute to company founder Alvin Ailey. Both programmes feature the classic Revelations, the most seen modern dance work in the world, choreographed by Ailey and first performed in 1960. A piece that celebrates and pays tribute to American dance music and history; it explores a journey from deepest grief to unbound joy and continues to inspire audiences whenever it is performed.
