Its Proms debut last year was hailed as 'astonishing', and praised for its ‘revelatory' music-making. Now the award-winning Sinfonia of London and its conductor, Proms favourite John Wilson, return with a concert of English music. Bookending the programme are two beloved classics: Vaughan Williams' luminous Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis takes inspiration from Tudor choral music, while Elgar immortalised friends and family in the affectionate character sketches of his ‘Enigma' Variations. The Arthurian castle of Tintagel is glimpsed from Cornish cliffs in Bax's tone-poem, while Walton's virtuosic Partita for Orchestra draws on the Mediterranean landscapes the composer knew so well. Adam Walker is soloist in the Flute Concerto that Huw Watkins wrote with his ‘amazing sound' in mind.
