The Likes of Us archiveThe Likes of Us is an uplifting family musical set in 1866. It tells the story of young Doctor Barnado who is intent on cleaning up the East End of London which, at the time, was a pit of depravity. He discovers the plight of the street children and decides to take up their case and plead it to the authorities, in particular the jingoistic Prime Minister Lord Shaftesbury. He is helped by evangelist Syrie and the pair falls head over heels in love. Following their successful 2009 production of Barry Manilow's Copacabana, SAOS return with the Northern premiere of the FIRST EVER Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber musical written over 40 years ago in 1965. The Likes of Us abounds with great melodies and rousing choruses, larger than life characters and tongue-in-cheek comedy. The story is based on the life of Dr. Thomas Barnardo, whose crusade to rescue abandoned street children in 1860s London became world renowned. With a score by these musical geniuses, the music in The Likes of Us is nothing short of magic. This amazing show is guaranteed to present Lloyd Webber and Rice's incredible talents in an outstanding production and one not to be missed!
