Orpheus descends into Hell on a journey to the extremes of human emotion to reclaim his beloved Eurydice. The poignancy of bereavement is threaded through Gluck's version of the Orpheus legend, but love triumphs over death and the opera ends with a life-affirming hymn of joy. New Production (Berlioz version) - Sung in French with surtitles. Sponsored by Coutts.
