No-one embodies the dramatic transformation of British Jazz over the past few years better than sax player Courtney Pine. Saxophonist Courtney Pine is one of the UK's leading musicians. Back in the 1980s he formed the seminal big band Jazz Warriors, shaking up the UK scene and celebrating the wealth of funk and reggae influenced Afro-Caribbean musicians. In 2007, Courtney Pine led a freshly minted Jazz Warriors in the Afropeans project - a concert and album to mark the 200th Anniversary of the Abolition of the Slave Trade act. The result? An extraordinary ensemble that crossed generations of leading UK soloists.
