Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique began as a story of unrequited love. It became: well, the name says it all, really; a sprawling, opium-fuelled phantasmagoria of guillotines, witchcraft and star-crossed romance, scored for a supersized orchestra that'll leave your ears tingling for days.
