Traditional English folksong and the varied cultural heritage of modern Britain are the starting points for Imagined Village, an exciting project that brings together artists from a range of backgrounds to explore the nature of Englishness in our culturally diverse times. The results are startling: a 15th-century ballad re-tuned to an electro-reggae beat; a 200-year-old folk song re-imagined for the sitar; new works forged by cross-cultural understanding, or that look back to the pastoral idiom of Vaughan Williams and Britten. Both musically engrossing and culturally thought-provoking, Imagined Village takes modern folk in exciting new directions.
