One of Britain’s finest tenors, Mark Padmore makes his Lakeside debut performing two of Schumann’s song cycles. His recital partner for this concert is Simon Lepper, one of Britain’s most gifted young accompanists. Mark Padmore has sung at the English, Welsh and Scottish National Operas, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Opéra de Paris, Théâtre du Châtelet and the Aix-en-Provence Festival. He has appeared with many of the world’s greatest orchestras and has made numerous recordings including Bach’s Passions with Philippe Herreweghe and Paul McCreesh, Bach Cantatas with John Eliot Gardiner and Herreweghe, and Haydn Masses with Richard Hickox. His performances of Schubert song cycles, operatic roles by Tippett, Britten, and Stravinsky, as well as works written for him by Mark-Anthony Turnage, Birtwistle, Sally Beamish and Huw Watkins demonstrate the range and depth of his musical interests. His extraordinary ability to communicate the emotional heart of texts has drawn admiration from audiences and critics alike. This will be a concert not to be missed.
