Details
The evening will begin with Sibelius’ compelling Karelia Suite, followed by Nikolai Lugansky’s performance of Grieg’s Piano Concerto, one of the most popular pieces of the form ever composed. The second half of the concert features Rachmaninov’s towering masterpiece; his Second Symphony in E minor. In this great work, the master of orchestral colour offers us some of the most ravishing music composed in the twentieth century. Sweeping melodies and rich deep-hued harmonies wash over the listener, right up to the triumphant and joyous finale.
