Details

Part of the BBC Proms. The third youth orchestra of the season brings the fruits of its summer residency with Sir Colin Davis. One of the world's great Berlioz champions, Davis includes the composer's evocation of Byron's hero Childe Harold, whose solo viola part was written for Paganini and is performed here by former Radio 3 New Generation Artist Maxim Rysanov (who returns on the Last Night). Further colourful orchestral narratives come in Janacek's explosive tone-poem - honouring a Cossack hero - and in the family feuding (as well as the rapt love music) of Tchaikovsky's Shakespearean fantasy. Finish time: approx. 21:00
