When You Hear My Voice archiveWhen You Hear My Voice celebrates, as do all Tim Williams Award (TWA) events, the compositional art of British theatrical song, specifically that employing lyrics from established sources not originally intended to be sung. A song sampling of 2009 and 2010 TWA highlights can be heard here . Cash prises for composition will once again be presented in memory of Tim Williams (the London Shakespeare Workout's late Musical Director). The fourth TWA programme will bear witness to the original work of 22 vibrant British composers. Each composer has been given at least one lyric, a dramatic scenario for their song, a suggested musical style (to ensure overall programme variety) and the range of one of the 26 West End Singers who will actively take part. Lyrics range from pens of William Shakespeare, Mary Stuart and Charles Dickens to Christina Rossetti, William Blake, Sir Noel Coward, Emily Bronte and Aleksandr Pushkin, (including a duet to be sung in Russian and English). Tennessee Williams is also featured as are extracts from anonymous Victorian erotica plus five original lyrical compositions including one created around a written fragment left by Anne Boleyn. The title of this year’s TWA event is drawn from an opening song especially written by Christopher Hamilton, the first two-time Tim Williams Award winner for Composition.
