Birmingham Royal Ballet - All That Jazz - Take Five Take Five/The Orpheus Suite/The Shakespeare Suite archiveTake Five Take Five sees the first Birmingham performances of David Bintley's latest jazz creation. Set to the iconic music of the legendary Dave Brubeck, this lighthearted, laid-back, elegant ballet takes life calmly in its stride. The Orpheus Suite - brings us to Duke Ellington. Seeing parallels between the musical brilliance and personal journeys of Ellington and Orpheus, Bintley commissioned Colin Towns to create a score that pays tribute to the Duke and his band. Travelling with Orpheus to the underworld and back in search of his beloved, this ballet boldly salutes the struggle, strength and spirit of jazz. The Shakespeare Suite - In The Shakespeare Suite Bintley celebrates Ellington's tenderness, verve and wit, by bringing to life his unforgettable tribute to Shakespeare. From Othello's wooing of Desdemona, to the love-struck madness that infects Titania and Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Ellington takes on Shakespeare in easy, seductive style.
