Details

Hiroaki Umeda is a man of synthesis and speed. Drawing on western classical dance sources for the fundamentals of his work, he soon made use of hiphop to generate body movements which have rounded off by his Japanese influence of Butoh. His pieces are more about sensations, as an increasing evidence of man fading away with the advent of technological supremacy. The aesthetic propositions offered by this multi-talented artist – Umeda is a choreographer, sound, image and lighting designer and performer – who locates his dance at the heart of electronic and digital material. Kinetic art, computer innovation and lighting all serve a work of minimalist and radical beauty. Haptic and Adapting for Distortion are perfect illustrations of it.
