Kathakali originated in Kerala South India over 500 years ago. It is a spectacular combination of drama, dance, music and ritual. Characters with vividly painted faces and elaborate costumes re-enact stories from Hindu epics. Kathakali, full of colour and powerful drumming, is one of the world's most visually exciting forms of theatre. This ancient classical dance drama has its origins in the temples of Kerala, South India. Actors are transformed by stunning make-up and elaborate costumes into kings, princesses and devils as they re-enact stories from the ancient Hindu epics, representing the endless struggle of good against evil. At the start of the performance there will be a short informal introduction and demonstration to introduce the art of Kathakali. Suitable for 7 years and over.
