Contemporary dance. Richard Alston, Artistic Director of The Place, the UK's leading centre for contemporary dance, is internationally recognised as one of the most influential and inspiring choreographers in British dance. This quadruple bill includes Richard Alston's world premiere, An Italian in Madrid, set to Scarlatti's sonatas. The influence of flamenco on Scarlatti continues Alston's fascination with the fusion of different cultures and styles and to explore this, Alston has invited BBC Young Dancer grand finalist Vidya Patel to join his company for this exciting new dance. National Dance Award-winners Jonathan Goddard and Liam Riddick reunite to the lilting Mazurkas of Chopin in Mazur - both Scarlatti and Chopin are played live by pianist Jason Ridgway. Martin Lawrance's brand-new Stronghold features an intense score by Julia Wolfe. Finally, Brisk Singing is one of Alston's most joyous creations.
