High Spirits archiveA musical based on Noel Coward's comedy Blithe Spirit. The play begins at a dinner party given by Charles and Ruth Condomine, a sceptical couple who, to entertain some guests, invite a medium to their home to work the Ouija board. Madame Arcati successfully calls Edith, Charles' dead wife, from the spirit world, only to find herself unable to send Edith back. The ensuing debacle is at times hilarious and at times heart wrenchingly sad, as Charles falls in love all over again with his selfish first wife and Ruth adapts to living with a ghost.
Performers James Staddon (Charles), Sarah Payne (Ruth), Kate Graham (Elvira), Gay Hamilton (Madame Arcarti), Rachel Clarke, John McManus, Llio Millward, Nigel Pilkington, Maria Rallings, Geoffrey Abbott (Dr Bradman).
Music Hugh Martin. Lyrics Timothy Gray. Company Ballantrae Theatre Productions. Director Raymond Wright. Director Alex Scrivenor (assistant). Lighting Robin Carter. Design Claire Lyth. Director Nathan Martin (music). Other Matthew Freeman (musical supervisor). Choreographer Alison Pollard.
