CORONAVIRUS: All UK venues closed on 16th March 2020 and there is currently no planned re-opening time though it will not be before 1st June 2020 and is most likely to be September (according to some West End producers). Rhondda Rips it Up! archiveRhondda Rips It Up! is a riotous romp through the life of Margaret Haig Thomas (Lady Rhondda), the Newport suffragette whose activities paved the way for women's rights in the personal, professional and political worlds. Performed in a classic music hall style, with original songs inspired by the suffragette slogans, this tongue-in-cheek production takes you on a whirlwind tour of the inspiring activist's mission. We're guided through the story by our very own MC (Lesley Garrett) as Lady Rhondda (Madeleine Shaw) takes on politicians, peers and a post box as she marches towards the House of Lords.
Performers Lesley Garrett (Emcee), Madeleine Shaw (Lady Rhondda), Anitra Blaxhall (Helen Archdale), Rosie Hay (Sybil), Catherine Wood (Lottie), Paula Greenwood (Prid), Meriel Andrew (Edith), Monika Sawa (Birkenhead), Kate Woolveridge (Lord Asquith), Carolyn Jackson (Churchill).
Music Elena Langer. Lyrics Emma Jenkins. Company Welsh National Opera. Director Caroline Clegg. Conductor Nicola Rose. Design Lara Booth. Lighting Elanor Higgins. Conductor Berrak Dyer (assistant).
