On 9 February 1983, Denis Nilsen was arrested after murdering fifteen young men and secreting their bodies throughout his flat. He explained afterwards: I was killing myself but it was always the bystander who died. I think that in some cases I killed these men to create the best image of them, I brood, at night, behind my iron screen. 18 years later, Isaac Webster buys a computer and realises that he can meet men online. He embarks on a quest for love. As visitor after visitor passes through his bed, he discovers that he and the murderer share more than he had imagined in common... Black and Blue is a new multimedia opera about love, death and the internet, and the horrific consequences of failing to connect.
