Details

Daphnis and Chloe is the story of two foundlings who, after a series of mishaps, find true love and happiness. The original story was told in the 2nd century BC by Longus, and was set to music in a ballet by Ravel in 1909 David Gibson conducts a huge choir, as Basingstoke is joined by Southampton for this magnificent piece. Choros 10 by Villa-Lobos was a huge success when sung at the Last Night of the Proms last year. Even so, Ravel’s Bolero would probably be considered the most popular work of the evening.
