Part of the Wagner ring cycle, Der Ring des Nibelungen. In Das Rheingold the power crazy dwarf Alberich plots to steal the Rhinemaidens gold, which bestows omnipotence on its owner. Meanwhile Wotan and Loge, two powerful gods, plan to steal the gold as a ransom for the goddess Freia who has been kidnapped by giants annoyed at not being paid for building Valhalla. New Production. Sung in German with English surtitles. Running time 2 hours 30 minutes (no interval).
