Siegfried's castle in Strasburg AD 730. Margareta offers to help Golo woo Genoveva, the wife of Count Siegfried, during the Count's absence. Rejected by Genoveva, Golo plants his friend Drago in her bedroom so that she can be accused of adultery. Golo then goes to tell Siegfried, who has been injured in battle, of his wife's infidelity.
