As a baby, the beautiful Marie was found on a battlefield and adopted, not by one soldier but by an entire regiment. When she falls - quite literally - into the arms of Tonio, her military fathers are not keen to sanction the marriage. Andy why is the Marquise de Berkenfeld so suspiciously keen to make a high-society match of her own for Marie? The fun of this exuberant comedy is in the dramatic twists and the tuneful music en-route to the happy ending. Sung in French with English surtitles. Running time: 2hrs 40mins (inclu. one interval)

Performers Patrizia Ciofi (Marie), Juan Diego Florez (Tonio - Mar14 3/6/12), Frederic Antoun (Tonio - Mar14 15/18), Pietro Spagnoli (Sulpice Pingot), Ewa Podles (La Marquise de Berkenfield), Donald Maxwell (Hortensius), Kiri Te Kanawa (La Duchesse de Crackentorp).
