Les Vepres siciliennes archiveThe French have occupied Sicily, and H?l?ne is held hostage by Montfort, the French governor, who has had her brother executed. She turns to the partisan Jean Procida and the rebellious patriot Henri in her bid for vengeance. Sung in French with English surtitles. Running time: 4hrs 30mins (with two intervals). Unfortunately the illness that prevented Marina Poplavskaya from singing the role of Helene in the premiere of our new production of Les Vepres siciliennes has persisted longer than expected, and has made it impossible for her to sing the remaining performances. We look forward to welcoming her back to The Royal Opera for further engagements.
Performers Lianna Haroutounian (Helene), Bryan Hymel (Henri), Michael Vole (Guy de Montfort), Erwin Schrott (Jean Procida), Jean Teitgen (Le Sire de Bethune), Jeremy White (Le Comte de Vaudemont), Nela Cooper (Thibault), Jihoon Kim (Robert), Jung Soo Yun (Mainfroid), Michelle Daly (Ninetta), Nicolas Darmanin (Danieli).
Music Verdi. Producer Royal Opera House. Producer The Royal Danish Opera Copenhagen. Conductor Antonio Pappano. Director Stefan Herheim. Dramaturg Alexander Meier-Dorzenbach. Design Philipp Furhofer. Costume Gesine Voellm. Lighting Anders Poll. Choreographer Andre de Jong.
