Details

The Fairy Queen is based on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and is a mixture of opera and ballet played out in a succession of human and mythological scenes in all its Baroque splendour. Thomas Guthrie s production, influenced by the English surreal painter Richard Dadd, imagines the story set in a military convalescent hospital during World War One. This joyous production beautifully conveys the fantasy and inextinguishable energy of Purcell s magical score. Running time: 1hr 50mins
