Certain Dark Things archiveThis second production from award-nominated physical theatre company You Need Me is a claustrophobic exploration of an illicit sexual relationship under Franco's religious dictatorship of the 1950s. A play in two parts, Certain Dark Things tells the story of Mikel, a young Basque boy, and his sexual awakening under a brutally repressive regime. We re-visit Mikel after Franco is dead when he struggles to face the truth of his own small, long-buried tragedy as the Basque culture emerges blindly from decades of fear and oppression. Devised and performed by a company of Basque, Spanish and English actors, Certain Dark Things is staged in the round with live music. It was originally commissioned by the Hightide Festival 2008. Contains adult themes. Recommended for ages 15+
