Demons and Dybbuks archiveDemons & Dybbuks follows the experiences of Issac bashevis Singer, from an Orthodox background at the dawn of the century through both German occupations of Warsaw, into the European intelligentsia and finally to New York. His personal demons drag at his coat-tails in the form of damaged women and a permanent sense of dislocation. The whole of 20th Century Jewish experience is charted, from the hard soil of Poland, up to the sky-scrapers of the New World, and down again into the depths of the underworld, told through the experiences of a writer with great humour and a sense of magic. Demons & Dybbuks was originally produced by Method & Madness, and toured nationally in 1998. In a bid for their work to be seen, the original company of actors formed Theatre of the Moment Projects and, with the generous support of friends throughout the arts world, managed to raise the finances to bring the play to the Young Vic theatre.
