Dublin Carol archiveIt's Christmas Eve and in Dublin John is sharing memories of his turbulent past, while dispensing wit and whiskey to his young assistant. But the arrival of his estranged daughter Mary shows him the time has arrived to come to terms with not only times past but also times yet to come. A funny, compassionate play from the author of The Weir. Irish story telling at its best, bringing the characters to vivid life with a mixture of lyricism, realism and black humour. Opening at the Old Vic due to building delays at The Royal Court theatre. The production will transfer to The Royal Court on 17th February.

User Review: 11Jan01: He ([Brian Cox]) creates a portrait of restless, desperate failure. This is a ruthlessly accurate and thoughtfully compassionate performance. It is an astonishing achievement for a writer in his twenties to draw such a chillingly accurate portrait of middle-aged despair. Dublin Carol is written with enormous skill, but it is really only a brilliant drawing of a single face.
