Get Up and Tie Your Fingers archiveWinner of the 1997 John Whiting Playwrighting Award. This original play is based on the loss of the Eyemouth fishing fleet in the storm of 1881 and is a deeply moving tale focusing on the lives of 3 of the women left behind by the tragedy. Struggling with the demons of the past and coping with death, guilt and learning to let children go their own way, Jean cannot loosen her emotional grip on her daughter Mollie. Her concern for her safety may result from her own experience of life, but will she ever banish her demons and let Mollie find her own path? Janet has enough warmth, wisdom and determination to face up to demons, but even she is unprepared for one terrible afternoon which changes everything.....

A well written and very moving piece performed by a cast intent on doing it justice. I hope Ms Van Rensburg, in particular, is granted the opportunity to expand her undoubted talents.
