Henry IV Parts I and II archiveEngland is in turmoil. The King's position is weak and the Prince of Wales has fallen under the corrupting influence of Falstaff. The entire population is involved in a struggle for the country's soul and only the agony of civil war can resolve it. Written around 1596 to 1598 these two plays look at the life of Henry IV (King of England 1399 to 1413) though they are sometimes refered to as Falstaff's plays as it is here that he makes his mark. Part I looks at rebellio at home in Britain. Part II caries the story past Henry's death. Revisiting the casting practices of Shakespeare's original company of actors, this bold and energetic production sees a cast of 9 men bringing the epic story of Henry IV and his truant son to life.
