High Life archiveThis high-speed and hilarious debut play by Lee MacDougall follows four morphine-addicted cons as they plan the ultimate bank heist in contemporary Miami. Smart-aleck Dice is the ringleader, and his main co-conspirator is his ex-cellmate Bug, a murderous psychotic with a hair-trigger temper. The team is completed by the soft-hearted conman Donnie, left with a barely functioning body after years of drug abuse, and angel-faced Billy as the presentable frontman. His boy-next-door good looks (used to seduce nurses into feeding his habit) provide the believable charm needed to con the bank. But as the only one never to have done time, the others fear him breaking the code of honour among thieves. As personalities clash and old resentments bloom under pressure, cracks begin to appear in the perfect plan. High Life is a furiously funny exploration of the terrifying ups and downs of addiction in the search for the perfect high.
