Les Fourberies de Scapin (Scapin's Trickery) archiveThe comedy was first performed in 1671 and was something of a failure but then so were The Misanthrope and The Miser. Comedie Francaise was formed in 1680 when Moliere's own troupe of actors merged with those of the Hotel de Bourgogne. Scapin's Trickery is a delightful comedy of manners, where the eponymous hero, one of Moliere's resourceful valets, interferes with and manipulates the affairs of his master with the usual complicated and hilarious consequences. This production is in French. 'Les Fourberies de Scapin', Moliere's most amusing comedy, has been updated to appeal to a contemporary audience.
