Tanner Hicks leads a fringe-elite collection crew that uses butoh, and psychology to convince egotistical but indebted doctors to pay up. In a botched collection attempt his tooth is broken. The broken tooth becomes a fissure through which Tanner accesses his dark and startling past. He feels he must confront his past before letting himself fall in love with Rita Anne Purcell.
