1920 Paschendale - Hill 60 - the scene of mass slaughter and questionable decision making by those in power. A small contingent of British soldiers are kept back to re-inter the dead in an official graveyard. A mother travels with her daughter to bring the back the body of her son to be buried under the tree in the garden. The Prince of Wales is sent on a mission to choose The Unknown Soldier using a pin and blindfold. An undertaker from Peckham seizes an opportunity to make money and get a little extra-marital romance while he s at it, and the Commissioner for Graves is rapidly losing the plot. This play loaded with acerbic dialogue and often erotic charge, raises poignant and timely questions about the politics of war and its aftermath on those left behind.
