Details
The story of frustrated young (illegally young in modern terms) love and death and the vendetta between two families in a tight-knit Italian community. One of Shakespeare's most popular and enduring dramas it has also been re-done as film, ballet, musical (most notably "West Side Story") and ice spectacular! When the First World War ended in 1918 the world had changed dramatically. Those who fought became known as ‘The Lost Generation’ having never fully recovered from their experiences. This new production of Romeo & Juliet, whilst using Shakespeare’s original text, is set against the backdrop of a post war industrial city. The disaffected youth having suffered and experienced the worst kind of humanity, try to find solace in whatever way they can. Whether that be violence, drugs or love. Can these young people find a way to put an end to the violence and hatred that has been a way of life for so long?
