A black comedy about a small community in a changing world. St Martin's, Isles of Scilly 1939, Mr Clemmow, the island post master is dead. Reluctantly, his son-in-law Vic Oliver prepares to take on the mantle of responsibility for the island's communication with the outside world. The installation of a new telegraph machine brings the world closer to St Martin's than ever before.
