Spring & Other Things archiveI don't want your useless labels or your mind-numbing medication. I want to be treated like an actual human being, not an age or a diagnosis. I want a hug. It's October 2016. The first six months of the year successively broke records for the warmest months ever seen, the UK has voted to leave the EU, politics in America is terrifying, and Chloe quite literally wants to die. Her schoolbag confiscated, and held in a waiting room watching the hours tick by, Chloe wonders if she can escape the beige walls with a view of the car park in favour of freedom and quiet amongst the trees and birds she longs for. How are young people expected to be happy in a world hell-bent on destruction? Maybe a breakdown is the only reasonable response to a world on fire. Can a cocktail of medication, de-escalation lighting and oreos reel Chloe back from the edge, or is it time to focus on the real root of the problem? In this semi-autobiographical show from the team behind 'A Rat, A Rat' (LPT award winner 2021) filled to the brim with comedy, queerness and climate anxiety, Chloe takes us through her journey from rock bottom in an adolescent psychiatric unit to falling head over heels in love with life again. Following sell-out performances at Norwich Arts Centre, Spring & Other Things is coming to the Old Red Lion for its London premier, with all of it's stubborn joy, ready to banish the cold and the dark and remind us of all the tiny bright things that make a life worth living.
