The Cut archiveHard nosed ex-union man Salter, released after serving a seven year sentence for a murder he claims he didn't commit, returns to the pit where he used to work on a mission to get even and to discover the truth about his father's death while he's been inside. What he returns to discover instead, is a world in which unions don't count anymore, where each man is out for himself and which finally ends in a violent and tragic power struggle, symbolising the end of an era. First performed in 1993, The Cut is a gritty, powerful and deeply moving play which draws on real life events as well as writer Mike Cullen's experiences as a worker in the Bilston Glen Colliery.
Performers Steve Martin (Salter), Rab Muir (Hessel), Philip Maguire (McGee), Peter Spence (Sandy).
Author Mike Cullen. Company Dundee Rep Community Theatre (Platform Production). Director Stephen Stenning.
