A world on the brink of chaos, where entire communities are paralysed by fear, genetically modified plants threaten humankind and the last flickers of civilisation are in danger of extinction. When a sensational meteor shower blinds most of the world's population, a resourceful biologist, Bill Masen, and a young writer, Josella Playton are amongst the few to escape. Their struggle to re-build their community and keep the vicious flesh-eating Triffids at bay quickly becomes an epic quest for survival.
