The Empire Changes Hands archiveThe Empire Changes Hands follows the fortunes of a host of fascinating characters who frequent the local dance hall called The Empire. In February 1952 the sudden death of George King, the owner of the dance hall, precipitates a crisis. Who will take over? Will it be his elder daughter, Betty, with two young children and a husband at sea, or the long-serving manager, Wynn? With songs like You Make Me Feel So Young and Day by Day from Pete Talbot, the North Wales answer to Frank Sinatra, live waltzes and quickstep from Eddy Leader and his band, The Shadow Cabinet, you will be longing to join in with the dances of the time. In this Jubilee Year, let yourself be transported back to life in the fifties, when the war over and better times were just around the corner.
