CORONAVIRUS: All UK venues closed on 16th March 2020 but restrictions were lifted on 19th July 2021 with venues free to run shows to full capacity audiences after that though there are still issues with company members being forced to self-isolate on being 'pinged'. In September it is possible that a COVID vaccination certificate (or exemption) may be mandated for entry. Please note that iUKTDb archive listings between March 2020 and July 2021 may not be accurate as we did not receive details of all rescheduled and cancelled shows.

The Hackney Volpone archiveLoosely inspired by the traditional story of Reynard the Fox, the play follows the story of a con-trick that spirals out of control when Volpone, a Venetian gentleman, pretends to be on his deathbed, ably assisted by his parasite Mosca, in order to dupe Voltore, Corbaccio, Corvino and Lady Would-Be, four legacy hunters who aspire to inherit his fortune. Stripping the play of the Sir Politic Would-Be subplot, the production places pace and immediacy at the top of the agenda, aiming to produce the freshest possible reworking of the playwright's finest work. A vibrant reworking of the Jacobean classic, brought to life in the heart of Hackney by a mix of seasoned professionals and members of the local community. Running time approx. 120mins (not inclu. interval of 15mins). Suitable for ages 14+.
Performers Babou Ceesay, Karina Fernandez, Amara Karan, Simon Rhodes, Jamel Rodriguez.
Author Ben Jonson. Adapted by Anna Jones. Adapted by Jamel Rodriguez. Presented by NYLon Projects. Director Anna Jones. Design James Turner. Music Elspeth Brooke. Director Lucy Casson (casting).
