The Royal Baccarat Scandal archiveAlthough based on true events, the play does not involve today's Royals, but those of the 1890's. The play, based on true historical events, involves the Prince of Wales who was renowned for playing the illegal game of Baccarat. The Prince was part of a house party at Tranby Croft when his close friend Sir William Gordon Cumming was accused of cheating by five other guests. This accusation leads Sir William to sue his accusers for slander and the almost unique occurrence of the Prince of Wales being called to the witness stand.
